My social media detox

As most people who know me are aware I have certainly been a very prolific user of social media, posting several times a day across Facebook, Instagram and twitter. Some might have even described me as a social media addict or a narcissistic selfie taker.

Earlier this year in the lead up to my 40th birthday I did a lot of self reflection and decided that moving forward i wanted to try and live more in the ‘real’ world and less in the ‘virtual’ social media world. So I decided to give up social media on February 23, on my 40th birthday for a period of 40 days – 40 days for 40 years of age, although interestingly it turned out my social media detox was much longer at 100 days.
As I psychologist I have always been interested in human behaviour and in particular the impact of social media so I documented my experience in a video diary. Click here for the latest entry, along previous entries where I share my experiences and key learnings from my social media detox.
